Robert Ballard is the director of the Center for Marine Exploration at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and director and founder of the JASON Foundation for Education. He is a marine scientist and oceanographic explorer, researching advanced deep-water exploration technology to study the ocean floor. He is the author or co-author of over fifty journal articles and scientific papers and is the recipient of numerous scientific awards. He has led or participated in nearly 100 deep-sea expeditions, including the expeditions that discovered the R.M.S. Titanic and the German battleship Bismarck.
