20 years ago this week the Gaza disengagement took place when the government of then PM Ariel Sharon ordered the IDF to expel 8,000 Jewish residents of the Gaza Strip from their homes in 22 settlements. The dramatic event ended the Israeli presence in the coastal enclave that began in the early 1970s, a few years after the 1967 Six Day war.
