Employment in China: Challenges Do Exist

The creation of more than 10 million new jobs in urban areas this year - this is one goal stated in China's 2016 government work report.Data from China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security show that over 13 million new jobs were created in China's urban areas in 2015. By the end of last year, China's urban unemployment rate was a stable 4.05%.So amid further economic slowdown, are there any challenges for China to achieve even this seemingly less than ambitious goal? PIK speaks with Zhao Zhong, Professor at the School of Labor and Human Resources, Renmin University of China, and Cindy Fan, Professor in the Department of Geography and Vice Provost for International Studies and Global Engagement, UCLA.
