In the nearly six months of war most of the Gaza Strip, swollen with over a million refugees, is heavily damaged with large swaths of urban areas destroyed and riddled with a vast network of destroyed Hamas tunnels. Many say it is uninhabitable for the near future even if or when efforts start to rebuild begin. Sinai is the solution. Joel Roskin, a professor at the department of environment, sustainability and planning at Bar Ilan University, has proposed turning northern Sinai into at least a place on earth the Gazans could settle, even temporarily, as it is an integral part of the Levant with ample water sources and extensive infrastructure already laid by the Egyptians.
