On January 20, 1969, Richard Nixon took the Oath of Office for the Presidency of the United States.This month, marks the 50th anniversary of that momentous occasion. Richard Nixon put his left hand on the Milhous Family bible held by the new First Lady Pat Nixon. Opened to Isaiah 2:4, the verse reads: “They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” Nixon later said in his memoirs that the major theme of his first inaugural address was peace.
