Sinopsis
Israeli Public Diplomacy Minister Galit Distal Atbaryan has launched a campaign to gain control over the Government Press Office, reportedly saying in private that she wants the authority to deny press credentials from foreign journalists who are critical of Israel. The GPO, which acts as the voice of the government, also has a large office and facilities that caters to mainly foreign correspondents which include translations of the Israeli press, hosting press conferences and gaining work visas. It’s various heads have often clashed with journalists critical of Israel, but it has mainly been a facilitator for media coverage for decades. Noga Tarnopolsky, a foreign correspondent, said that the minister was interested in censoring foreign media coverage, but the GPO has already turned into a gatekeeper to keep out critical journalists. She spoke with reporter Arieh O’Sullivan. (photo: Naomi Segal) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
