The Israeli government has approved in a telephone referendum a funding framework to extend humanitarian assistance to refugees from the war in Ukraine. The cabinet approved an across-the-board budget cut for government ministries of 0.06 percent, in order to cover the estimated 40 million shekel cost of extending until the end of the year the humanitarian assistance, including health care coverage, to Ukrainian refugees who fled the war in their country and do not qualify to immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return. On August 9th, Israel had halted health coverage for the 14,000 Ukrainian refugees residing in the country, citing a lack of funding source. An earlier government pledge to renew the coverage was not implemented due to sparring among government ministries over who would shoulder the cost. Ahead of a scheduled High Court of Justice hearing of a petition that the humanitarian assistance be reinstated, the state informed the court that the prime minister would put forward a resolution with a fund
