The Stella Maris controversy

Informações:

Sinopsis

The Israel Police’s chief rabbi has brokered an arrangement under which  Hasidic followers of Rabbi Eliezer Berland will not worship at the Catholic Stella Maris monastery in Haifa until after Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. The Hasids claim that Elisha the Prophet is buried on the site.    Church officials were angry over the deal and said that no negotiations must be held with the "squatters."    Haifa Mayor Einat Kalisch Rotem also spoke out against the proposed arrangement and said: The church belongs to the Christians, period.  Father Jean Joseph Bergara, the monastery superior of Stella Maris, told us the claims of the followers of Rabbi Berland are not true and the remains of the Biblical prophet Elisha are not at the site and therefore Jews  should not be allowed to pray at  the monastery.  Father Jean Joseph Bergara first explained the history of the Stela Maris monastery.
