As we mark 125 years of the birth of the Zionist movement, Israel has become a vital and dynamic homeland for the Jewish people. Prof. Yossi Shain, a Knesset member from the Israel Beitenu Party, says that the Zionist revolution changed history and has made Israel the center of the Jewish people but that Zionism is a never ending process. A former head of the school of government and international affairs at Tel Aviv University and professor emeritus of international affairs at Georgetown University, Shain says that a schism has opened between Israel and liberal Jews, mainly in the United States. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that Herzl’s vision for a shelter for all Jews was still valid and efforts needed to be made not to let it be governed by extreme religious groups.
