Sinopsis

The Jerusalem court for administrative affairs has ruled that the population authority and interior ministry must recognize as married couples who  wed online in the framework of the so-called Utah Marriages. The court accepted a petition lodged by the non-profit organization Hiddush – for Religious Freedom and Equality, on behalf of eight couples whom the population authority did not register as married at the directive of then-Interior Minister Aryeh Deri of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party. A Utah marriage is a wedding ceremony with a  marriage officiant in Utah County and remote, live appearance by the couple. Rabbi Uri Regev, director of Hiddush- for Freedom of Religion and Equality spoke to KAN reporter Naomi Segal about the ruling and its significance.  (Photo: illustrative.
