  • Will the 'Invisible Hand' Finally Stop Doctors From Putting Kids on Experimental Gender Drugs?

    08/04/2024 Duración: 26min

Doctors across the country have seemingly thrown caution to the wind, prescribing experimental drugs to block puberty and to chemically alter young people's bodies in the name of a nebulous gender identity, but rising rates for medical malpractice insurance may cause them to think twice. "If the Hippocratic oath, if basic high school ninth grade biology, if the moral natural law theory of human beings being image-bearers of God, if none of that will convince doctors that this is a bad idea, and it takes their own economic self-interest, that might be a sad commentary on the practice of medicine, but I'll take it, right?” Latham Watts, vice president of public affairs at the nonprofit law firm Alliance Defending Freedom, tells “The Daily Signal Podcast.” Enjoy the show! • Michael Barone: Understanding the Founding Fathers’ ‘Mental Maps’

    05/04/2024 Duración: 19min

The places where they were raised and to which they traveled formed the Founding Fathers’ geographic orientation, which influenced their view of the nation and what the country could become, according to Michael Barone.  While George Washington had “a map that goes north by northwest,” Thomas Jefferson “saw the country from [the] perspective of the West,” says Barone, a senior political analyst for The Washington Examiner and a co-author of The Almanac of American Politics since its first edition in 1972.  In his new book, “Mental Maps of the Founders: How Geographic Imagination Guided America's Revolutionary Leaders,” Barone explains how the differing “mental maps” of Founders such as Washington, Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton were sometimes in opposition, but together formed our great nation.  Barone joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the little-known facts about the Founding Fathers he uncovered while researching the new book.  Enjoy the show! • Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers: Time for Senate to Pass TikTok Bill

    04/04/2024 Duración: 21min

There is a rare bipartisan agreement in Washington D.C. around the social media app TikTok. The app’s parent company, ByteDance, is headquartered in Beijing and is subject to Chinese law that requires companies to make their users’ data available to the Chinese Communist Party.  In March, the House passed a bill in a 352-65 vote, with the help of 197 Republicans and 155 Democrats, that gives TikTok a choice: either break from ByteDance or cease to operate in the U.S. Biden says he will sign the bill if it land on his desk, so that just leaves the Senate.  “I'm hopeful that the Senate will act swiftly,” Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., says. “I believe that it is important that they do to address this immediate threat and get this on the president's desk. This legislation is our best chance to end the Chinese Communist Party's abuse of these apps that are targeting, surveilling, and manipulating Americans.”  McMorris Rodgers, who also serves as chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, joins “The

  • Climate Expert Shares Dirty Truth About Wind and Solar Energy

    03/04/2024 Duración: 25min

Wind, solar, and electric vehicles aren't the clean energy accomplishments that many claim, climatologist David Legates says. “The lithium, the atrium, all of the rare earth minerals that are necessary for the batteries, that are necessary for the solar panels, that are necessary for the wind turbines … are called rare earths,” Legates explains on “The Daily Signal Podcast.”  These rare earth minerals are acquired through strip mining, he says, a process that involves putting large chunks of earth into a solution. Once the minerals are extracted, what is left is a “toxic sludge lake." The process of strip mining changes the environment, adds Legates, a visiting fellow who serves on the Science Advisory Committee for the Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment at The Heritage Foundation. Legates, also a professor emeritus at the University of Delaware, is the author of a Heritage paper on rising sea levels. Legates, who joins this episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast," explains how wind turbines and solar

Tim Murtaugh became a familiar face to many Americans as President Donald Trump’s communications director for his 2020 reelection campaign. As one of Trump’s most visible spokesmen, Murtaugh had a front-row seat to the most-watched campaign in history. But just a mere four years earlier, Murtaugh found himself in a much different spot. After struggling with alcoholism for years, he was jailed in 2015 for public drunkenness and unsure of his fate. That’s when he decided to give up alcohol and focus on turning his life around. Murtaugh would go on to work for Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue before joining Trump’s reelection campaign. Today, he’s running his own communications firm. He joined "The Daily Signal Podcast" to talk about his new book—out today—called “Swing Hard in Case You Hit It: My Escape from Addiction and Shot at Redemption on the Trump Campaign.” Hosted on Acast. • Why Nonprofits Serving Homeless Should STOP Taking Government Money

    01/04/2024 Duración: 22min

After spending years serving the needs of the poor and homeless through nonprofit ministry, James Whitford says he learned that “it's good for nonprofits … to stay away from government funding.”  Whitford, the co-founder and CEO of True Charity, a national initiative to reform charity work, started serving the poor through a ministry called Watered Gardens Ministries in Joplin, Missouri, over two decades ago. Over time, he has crafted a model for how nonprofits can best serve the needs of the poor and actually be a part of solving the homeless crisis.  Step one, according to Whitford, is declining government funding because it reduces fundraising efforts, which disengages local donations, and “those local donors are often volunteers as well,” he tells “The Daily Signal Podcast.”  “So there's a kind of a symbiosis between the local donor and being a volunteer,” according to Whitford. “Sometimes it's a volunteer first that becomes a donor. Sometimes it's a donor that becomes a volunteer. But the last thing we w

  • Tim Carney on America's Baby Bust

    27/03/2024 Duración: 30min

How could America shift so babies were more welcomed, less dreaded? Tim Carney, author of the new book “Family Unfriendly: How Our Culture Made Raising Kids Much Harder Than It Needs to Be,” has a few ideas. He’d like to see corporations offer parents their child’s birthday off every year. He wants parents to not work so hard at parenting—and to never, ever, sign up their kids for a travel sports team. He’d like to see local governments prioritize sidewalks and denser housing, which would make neighborhoods safer for kids. But he also wants us to think about why we have a falling birth rate—and what it says about us. After World War II, America had a baby boom, while Germany experienced a baby bust. Now, we’re struggling with our own baby bust, even as we are hammered by relentless discussions of America’s failures, the threat of climate change, and more. “The spirit of the age now is what I call civilizational sadness,” says Carney. “And the sadness is a belief that we’re just not good or that humans were a

  • Terrorist Threat to US ‘Has Not Been at This Level for Decades,’ Expert Warns

    26/03/2024 Duración: 20min

The Islamic extremist group ISIS took responsibility for a terrorist attack in Russia on Friday that left nearly 140 people dead. The deadly incident is one the United States should take “extremely seriously,” according to national security expert Robert Greenway. The deadly attack confirms that “the level of threat to the United States from terrorist attack has not been at this level for decades,” Greenway, a former member of the National Security Council and director of the Center for National Defense at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal Podcast.  Greenway joins the podcast to not only explain how ISIS regained the strength to carry out an attack in Russia, but also why the terrorist group targeted the authoritarian nation. Greenway also discusses why Russian President Vladimir Putin is placing blame for the attack at the feet of Ukraine, and how Russia’s state media are reporting the attack.  Enjoy the show!
