Military historian Alex Bowers is newly arrived in Canada.  Look for articles by him in a variety of publications. He is active on social media! I speak with him on what I believe is his 8th day as a new resident of Halifax.  I think we will talk with him annually to follow his journey and adventures.

In conversation with the new director, Dr. Hoi Cheu, the history, the importance and applicability of the Doran Planetarium to awareness is discussed.  Clearly knowing who we are and where we are in the totality of the (growing) universe can blow your mind, but also puts some things in perspective.  We are indeed a little blue planet third from our sun, and perhaps very unique (or not).  We should work harder to protect ecosystems and the plants, animals, and oceans that are all interconnected.

Many things have been born of the Pandemic.  Home breadmaking (and specifically sourdough) was not just to keep us busy; for some it became a business.  Meredith has a family history and lifelong love of kitchens and baking.  Walking in the steps of both her Grandmothers she saw not just then need for bread, but a desire to eat better bread. Cookbooks have a way finding a route to my kitchen.  This one was a little different because it had recipes for cooking with Cannabis.  I just had to reach out to chef and author Laurie Wolf to ask her how to do it. Generous with her time and years of learning I think we will have more conversations in the future.  Listen and just enjoy her enthusiasm for the topic.  

Not just because listeners may pledge to a "Dry February" but the topic of staying sober is being discussed openly and more frequently in 2023.  Alcohol can -and does - ruin lives and impact friends, family and society.
