Irish clinical research organisation ICON plc has released its Q3 2023 financial results.  The CFO, Brendan Brennan joined Emmet this morning on the show.

EY has launched an artificial intelligence platform called EY.ai    Speaking to Emmet with more on their launch of the platform was Paul Pierotti , Partner in Data Analytics and AI at EY Ireland.

Germany is in something of an economic mudbath at the moment.  The IMF said last week that it will be the weakest member of the G7 this year and technically it’s already in a recession.  But Germany never stays weak for long and those betting against it might lose their money in the long term.  For a deeper look at what is going on in Europe’s largest economy, let’s speak to a man who knows both Germany and Ireland having spent quite a bit of time in Co Clare.  Thomas Kuhn from Wirtschaftswoche joined Joe this morning on the show.

The Protected Disclosures Act is now in force which obliges companies to have procedures in place to allow even the most junior employees to become whistleblowers if they see wrongdoing.  In 2 months, the law will apply to companies with 50 or more employees which will bring thousands of businesses into the net and force them to make major changes.  But are they gonna be ready?    Speaking to Joe this morning Michael Kavanagh the chief executive of the Compliance Institute.

Are mass drone deliveries getting closer?   Bobby Healy from Manna Aero thinks they are both on the way and thinks he can build one of the biggest companies in Ireland. 

In just over a year all banks and insurance companies will be legally obliged under EU law to ensure that they have enough protections in place to deal with a cyber attack.  It’s called the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) and banking directors will be responsible for robustly managing personal data and any technological issues. Ergo is an Irish company that advises in this space and  Steve Blanche is the CTO of Ergo who joined Joe on the show this morning.

Last week we told you that the owners of IKEA had invested in an Irish renewable energy company.  That firm is Source Galileo and they’re set to become a major player in offshore wind in Britain & Ireland.  But will they get over the enormous planning hurdles that seem to hold up all infrastructure investment in this country?  Kevin Lynch is the Chief executive of Source Galileo joined Joe this morning on the show.

Paddy Cosgrove started The web summit conference in 2009 in Bewleys Hotel with a handful of attendees and grew it into a multi-million euro business with 70,000 attendees. He became a millionaire but also began sharing many of his political views in public. After major sponsors started pulling out one by one, Paddy Cosgrave bit the bullet and quit the company that he founded at the weekend. What can we learn about this? Johnny Fallon has been following the story closely and works as a consultant with Carr Communications and joined Joe this morning.

The cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has chosen Dublin as its main regulatory and operational hub for the EU.  It comes as the EU is finalising new regulations for digital assets - referred to as Mica. Joe was joined on the show by Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer of Coinbase who is in Ireland this week to seal the deal. 

War in Europe and the Middle East. Soaring interest rates and political unease everywhere.  What should investors do?  Putting your money into cash will earn you nothing and property is flatlining.  One of the biggest investors in the country is Irish Life which manages the pension funds for millions of people and Anthony MacGuinness, Irish Life's Chief Investment Officer joined Joe on the show this morning.

A look at today's business papers and markets with economist Austin Hughes.

More than half of companies have introduced a core set of hours in which workers must be in the office according to a Dublin Chamber survey carried out in association with Savills.  Only 8% of companies surveyed said they insist on 100% attendance in the office and now Thursday has replaced Wednesday as the day on which the office is busiest. Aebhric McGibney, Director of Public and International Affairs at Dublin Chamber joined Joe on the show this morning.

Aquatech is the technology behind aquaculture or the farming of fish and it relates to the breeding, raising, and harvesting of fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants.  And Bord Iascaigh Mhara is holding a special conference about encouraging aquatech entrepreneurs to get into the sector. Joining Joe this morning on the show was Richard Donnelly Development and Innovation Services Director BIM.
