State Street Global Advisors, the asset management business of State Street Corporation has announced that Ann Prendergast will become the new head of EMEA for State Street Global Advisors and Anne joined Tom this morning on the show.

Economic activity will likely contract, while at the same time, the domestic economy will likely grow – that’s according to the Central Bank’s final quarterly bulletin of the year.  To break it down for us was Robert Kelly, Director of Economics and Statistics at the Central Bank .

New legislation from the European union is on its way in 2025, which will mandate companies to ensure that workplaces are not just physically accessible for all types of workers, but also accessible for people with conditions not visible to the naked eye. Speaking to Joe this morning was Niamh Kelly  Founder/CEO at Leaders for Accessibility.  

1000 more jobs left the FDI sector this year than came into the country according to the latest report from the IDA.  That report also confirmed that 300,000 people are directly employed here by those companies brought here by the IDA. And the agency says that keeping that number above 300,000 is the challenge in an era of shrinking global investment.  Speaking to Joe this morning was Michael Lohan is the Chief Executive of the IDA.

If your company is fortunate enough to have excess working capital or cash, then you’ll know that rates are low in Ireland.  Now Elkstone has a new platform to allow access to much higher deposit rates throughout the eurozone.   Karl Rogers, the Chief Investment Officer at Elkstone Partners  joined Joe this morning.

The Eurozone’s largest economy Germany is not in great shape.  It’s grown by roughly zero so far this year and has a hole in its budget in need of fixing.  Much of the crisis stems from Germany’s previous reliance on cheap Russian oil and China as its main export market. So what does next year hold for the engine of Europe?  Speaking to Joe this morning on the show was  Holgar Zschäpitz is editor at large with the famous German newspaper Die Welt who has also spent the last week or so in Ireland studying our economy.

Companies make decisions based on their data they have before them as well as gut instinct.  And while you can rarely rely on or even measure your gut, business leaders need to rely on the data and information they are getting.  But a new report out from EY suggests that data is not always reliable?  Dr Mary Coughlan, EY Ireland Partner in Data, Analytics & AI joined Joe this morning with more on this.

According to the respected think tank the ESRI GDP will shrink by 2.7% this year but rise by 2.3% next year.  But more importantly modified domestic demand will grow overall this year by a far more modest 0.6% and by 2% next year. The ESRI quarterly assessment of the economy says that inflation will just above 2% next year and unemployment will fall to 4.3% - suggesting a healthy economy. But it warns of global factors which could push Ireland off course.   To discuss further with Joe was Conor O’Toole Associate Research Professor at the ESRI .
