India Levels Field For Cargo
15/07/2024 Duración: 22minAs India inches closer to the ambitious target of 10MMT of air cargo handled per year by 2030, one question that is being asked is: Why are there so few freighter operators from India? One of the major reasons is the high belly capacity available in India. Around 80 percent of cargo traffic is carried on passenger aircraft. Today, Blue Dart apart, there are only a handful of freighters carrying the India flag. August 15 brings a great golf tourney as the 19th Annual Dan Ferrante gathering takes place at JFK International Airport.

Me & Trump In A Lav At LGA
11/07/2024 Duración: 05minIn The Lav of a DC9 With Donald Trump When Donald Trump bought the old Eastern Airlines Shuttle, that had served Boston and Washington with hourly flights, he came to LaGuardia Airport to launch the newly branded Trump Shuttle, in the form of an old DC9 that waited quietly outside at the gate bound for Washington. The Donald stood at the check-in gate greeting the press. I was there as the Trump Shuttle flak came to my office at Air Cargo News FlyingTypers in the Marine Air Terminal and asked me to attend the event. "Look I need numbers, maybe we could comp you to stay a few days on us at The Trump Taj Mahal AC in Atlantic City that he owns!" I said we don't gamble but took sympathy and jumped aboard the airport bus to the main terminal. Something good for LGA and New York City was the larger calling during those days.

Emirates Names Abbas DSVP
09/07/2024 Duración: 10minIt’s Summer Dog Days and time when cargo people and their organizations kick back a bit, almost everywhere in the world by taking one for the team at various golf and social events outside the daily grind of industry events.Trade shows and upbeat discussion groups and company pitchmen and women are off somewhere spending lazy afternoons for a brief few weeks, catching their breath after a very active business and social first half of 2024.While the interlude in contact air cargo will be brief, one way you can tell early July heralds a slow air cargo news month, is to Google “air cargo” as we did on July 8 to the following result:“Get your Tommy Hilfiger John Light Cargo Shorts in Khaki Only $48.00,” lit up our screen for the Google search word "Cargo."When a snazzy pair of cargo shorts is bigger 'cargo' news than “sustainability, digitalization, or artificial intelligence” in Google, that seems like a good time to get to work to find news that is always there, where the rubber meets the road

Dog Days Of Summer
03/07/2024 Duración: 14minWhen Sirius would appear in the sky just before the sun, in July, that marked the beginning of the very hottest days of the year. The Romans referred to this period as "dies caniculares" or "days of the dog star," which was eventually translated as just "dog days." Too hot to handle? Now that the world seems warmer and that last trade show of the first half of 2024 was over at PVG last week, we are counting the ‘Dog Days’ as July 4th in America approaches Thursday wishing all A SUPER SUMMER 2024! At home we look at our four-legged friends with some passion whilst they continue to do what they have always done best as great spirits looking up every time, we enter the room and no matter what, asking us the same question with longing in their eyes: “What’s up?” they always want to know. Lulu, our faithful companion (pictured here), could not be described as a wonder dog, that’s for sure. No heroics on tap for July 4th either.

Alex Thiermann/D- Day 2024
05/06/2024 Duración: 18minSentimental journey... We recall the life & times of a great Chilean air cargo pioneer Alex Thiermann. In Normandie as that big D-Day gathering today June 6 will see return of DC3s above the skies above the coast of France ,we visit friends and family there. Some years since we journeyed to Bernay in Normandie and relived some WWII memories with our Uncle Claude who recalled D Day through the eyes of a child. As preamble , it needs to be noted five years ago there were maybe 250 veterans of that day visiting aboard a tour from England and this year there were only maybe 10% of that number on the same tour.

23/03/2024 Duración: 28minIn a perfect world the following words would just make no sense. Yes, indeed, in a perfect world… We are talking about how much logistics, and air cargo in particular, is missing by overlooking women’s skills, but we are doing this sideways, as it is convenient at the FlyingTypers. Women’s skills can be ignored knowingly or as a habit, in any case it is a missed opportunity at best. This is not the main concept of this Podcast, but it cannot be ignored if you wish to fully understand its content. An accomplished businesswoman speaks hereunder and teaches us a few lessons. Make no mistake listening to Donna Mullins is a learning curve. There was so much to learn! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/geoffrey-arend/support

Martin Changed Color On The Bridge
15/01/2024 Duración: 14minIf you want to learn about August Martin, the great air cargo pilot who flew for Seaboard World Airlines during the 1950’s, the name August Martin as an internet search, most often comes up as “August” 28, 1963,the day “Martin” Luther King whose birthday we celebrate Monday delivered his never to be forgotten “I Have A Dream,”speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. August Martin was a gentle man, who would be remembered in history as the first African American to serve as Captain on a U.S. scheduled flag carrier.Put another way, before “Augie” as his friends called him, there had never been a black airlinecaptain on the bridge of any U.S. airline. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/geoffrey-arend/support

Lessens From Our Fathers
09/01/2024 Duración: 13minNow hear this here is the true cradle of modern air cargo thinking from some airline people long gone and nearly forgotten.Once upon a time there were two giant all cargo airlines operating from the USA to points internationally. From Los Angeles to the Pacific & Asia was Flying Tigers and from New York Across the Atlantic to Europe,Africa, the Middle East and India was Seaboard World Airlines. This is about Seaboard World Airlines and specifically some excellent people that learned air cargo from its people. On October 1, 1980 Seaboard World Airlines was absorbed by The Flying Tiger Line, Inc., and on December 16, 1988 The Flying Tiger Line, Inc., was absorbed by the Federal Express Corporation.I was thinking about people in our business recently watching Fred Smith on TV talking air cargo.Once upon a time there was John Mahoney at Seaboard talking air cargo. That was 50 years ago. Interesting that the last big time air cargo type, Smith out on the hustings commanding the widest audience of any airline exe

Who Was Bill Spohrer?
08/01/2024 Duración: 13minTalked to Bob Rogers the force behind ULD Care. Bob is based in Hong Kong where Christmas and the New Year was celebrated with the "usual Hong Kong enthusiasm" and of course we are only a few weeks away from doubling down with Chinese New Year as Year of the Dragon approaches as a big celebration this year. So in January while the world takes off in 2024 is the last month of the Year of the Rabbit before February on the Chinese Zodiak Calendar debuts the Year of the Dragon . While hoping that we all still got some of good cosmic fortune left ULD Care is out with some good ideas on the subject closest to Mr. Rogers heart and as usual he is kicking the cans. We also share some further thoughts of our friend Bill Spohrer whose passing we first reported January 8,2023.
